About Me

My photo
I am a child of God first and foremost. I love art, and painting is my new passion. My paintings often reflect emotions, life events, and my faith. It's freeing to express myself through colour and texture as brush meets canvas. Many of these paintings have been inspired by life events, both good and bad - but like Helen Keller said: "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved." ~

Happy Engagement!

Love is Patient
March 2011

Love is patient,
Love is kind,
Love means slowly losing your mind!

To celebrate my soul sister's engagement, I was inspired to paint this picture.  It began as a heart held tenderly by God's hands, but it morphed into a beautiful combination of colours featuring a heart of true love.  This painting reminds me of 1 Corinthians 13, when Paul explains what true love is:

1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is LOVE.

Chapel Paintings

I did a series of paintings for one of Concordia's Lenten Chapel services.  The following paintings are based on the Old and New Testament readings, and the idea that God is dwelling with us.

Moses and the Ten Commandments
Exodus 24

The Mount of Transfiguation
Matthew 17.1-9

God dwells within each of us always, but it is nice to think that He is with us in ordinary life events too.  Like the picture of the tent on the mountains, one of the best places to connect with God is the peace and quite of the wilderness.  His majesty is reflected in the moon and stars, the sparkles in the rocks, and the intricacies of the plants and animals.  What a privilege we have to see God's in everything we see.

Untitled (for now)

I love to paint sunsets, sunrises, and moonscapes, and this painting is no different.  The photo doesn't really do the image justice though, in real life it's shiny and more pink . . .

Majesty

Majesty
March 30, 2011

This painting is based off of Psalm 8, and brings me tremendous comfort.

 1 LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
   You have set your glory
   in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
   the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
5 You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
 9 LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

"Majesty" incorporates God's hands in creation of the moon and stars, and the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, with the saving grace of Jesus Christ through the cross.  As I lay my life at the cross and look up at the love that is so obvious through that image, I am reminded of the Creator of the universe and His majesty.

Peaceful Night

Peaceful Night

This painting has so muc more meaning for me than anyone could ever know, but mainly it is a reflection of one of my favourite past-times.  Looking out on a starry night, breathing in the fresh air and finding patters in the stars.  It's a place to be alone, with God, and reflect on life.  There is nothing better.

A Little Bit of Hope

A Little Bit of Hope
February 12, 2011

Through all of the pains and trials of life, through all of the hurts and the tears, Jesus Christ has given me hope.  His love shines through the darkness to show us the colours of life.

This painting is based on John 3.16: For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in His will never die but have eternal life.

My faith in Christ Jesus and the promises of my Heavenly Father give me hope and security in life.
